Human trafficking to Iraq

Iraq is both a source and destination country for men, women, and children subjected to trafficking in persons, specifically forced prostitution and forced labor. Iraqi women and girls, some as young as 11 years old, are subjected to conditions of human trafficking within the country and in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Iran, and possibly Yemen for forced prostitution and sexual exploitation within households. In some cases, women are lured into forced sexual exploitation through false promises of work. The more prevalent means of human trafficking is through sale or forced marriage. Family members have coerced girls and women into prostitution to escape desperate economic circumstances, to pay debts, or to resolve disputes between families. Some women and girls are trafficked within Iraq for the purpose of sexual exploitation through the traditional institution of temporary marriages (muta’a). Under this arrangement, the family receives a dowry from the husband and the marriage is terminated after a specified period. Iraqi males have also taken advantage of muta’a to traffic multiple women into other Iraqi provinces or neighboring countries, especially Syria, for the purposes of forced prostitution. Anecdotal reports tell of desperate Iraqi families abandoning their children at the Syrian border with the expectation that traffickers on the Syrian side will pick them up and arrange forged documents so the young women and girls can stay in Syria in exchange for working in a nightclub or brothel. Team Nepal captain Paras Khadka hospitalised

Skipper of Nepal’s national cricket team Paras Khadka has been hospitalised after he suffered from intestinal problems on Friday afternoon, according to a family source. He is receiving treatment at the Thapathali-based Norvic International Hospital. It has been learned that a team of doctors led by senior consultant gastroenterologist Madhu Ghimire is looking after Khadka. Khadka was rushed to the emergency of the hospital after he complained of severe abdominal pain on Friday. Paras Khadka arrived at the emergency of Norvic Hospital at 2:30 pm and shifted to general bed after preliminary investigation in the evening, according to RP Mainali, senior corporate communications manager at the hospital.Mainali said Khadka’s vitals are stable and pain has subdued today, while the entire investigation report is yet to come. Preliminary investigation suggested that he suffered from intestinal infection. But reports are expected in two days. Panic in Lukla airport after Simrik Air bomb scare hoax

The bomb threat scare onboard a Simrik Airlines aircraft in Luka Airport on Monday was a hoax, police confirmed.Nose wheel tyre of simrik air was punctured today and Tenzing Hillary airport was blocked for three hours. Simrik air Dornier aircraft was flying from Kathmandu to lukla with passengers. The incident happened while aircraft was about to turn from runway to apron. There is no any causality reported. Overcrowded bus plunges hundreds of feet down steep hill, killing 30

A bus teeming with nearly 70 passengers was heading to Kathmandu when it fell off the road and plunged many metres down a hill on Tuesday—killing most of its passengers on the spot. The deadly bus crash occurred near a village in Rasuwa district about 32 kilometres north of Kathmandu. While traveling through the mountainous region with people riding on its roof, the packed vehicle tilted over onto the gravel. The bus then slid down the hill next to the road for about 200 metres. At least 30 passengers were killed while 35 others were injured in the crash. A severe fuel shortage in Nepal has led to fewer vehicles in service, and more vehicles are carrying far more passengers than they should. Nepal often sees tragic incidents like this one because of its many winding roads. <div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"> <div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"> A woman has been arrested for masterminding the murder of her father after a row between them over putting money into a beauty parlour turned ugly.Police on Tuesday arrested Sangita Maharjan, 20, of Tokha, Kathmandu, along with her six accomplices, for killing Maila Maharjan, 43, on February 4. Police identified other arrestees as Santosh Pandey of Dhading, Bikram Tamang of Dhading, Surya Rana Magar of Makawanpur, Dhan Kumar Tamang of Bhojpur, Hari Tamang of Kavre and Santosh Thapa Magar of Dhading. Santosh Pandey is Sangita’s husband. According to police, Sangita had decided to marry Pandey despite opposition from her family. As a trained beautician, Sangita had been pestering her father to put money into a beauty parlour before her marriage. After getting married with Pandey, Sangita again started badgering her father into giving her Rs 300,000 to 400,000 so that she could start the venture. But her father refused. According to police, at one point, the father had agreed to sell his land to give her the required money. But when the father showed no signs of selling the land, Sangita, along with her husband, hatched a plot to kill the entire family and acquire the property. The history of Nepalese cinema

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"> Nepal a couple of times in my childhood. When you think of the Himalayan nation, cinema is not the first thing that comes to mind, despite the existence of the charming and elegant daughter of Nepal, Manisha Koirala. Meeting representatives of Kathmandu-based sales agents, Mountain River Films, at various film markets across Asia sparked my interest in cinema from that region. They are passionate people who talked a good game, and moreover, followed up our conversations by sending me links to some key contemporary Nepalese films.<br />Before I delved in, as always, a quick bit of research to acquaint myself with the history of Nepalese cinema. The first Nepali-language film, as all accounts indicate, appears to be D.B. Pariyar’s Satya Harishchandra (1951), but that was an Indian production. The first indigenous Nepali film, Hira Singh Khatri’s Aama (1964), was produced under the aegis of the Nepal government, and since then, film production in the country flourished until the 1990s. Fans of Mala Sinha may note that she acted in B.S. Thapa’s Maitighar (1966), a film that also featured cameos by Sunil Dutt and Rajendra Nath, and had music by Jaidev, with Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar and Manna Dey lending their voices.<br />The emergence of the Maoist movement in the 1990s saw the decline of local productions, and once matters were somewhat resolved in the 2000s, cinema arose again. Like we have seen in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, looking back on a period of conflict always gives rise to great cinema, and Nepal is no different. Samten Bhutia’s Taandro (2015), for example, one of the films that Mountain River Films is championing, follows Koshish, who belongs to an underground Maoist group that is endeavouring to overthrow the government and establish a republic.<br />Another great example of contemporary Nepalese cinema is Nischal Basnet’s Talakjung vs Tulke (2014), Nepal’s entry for the Oscars last year. India is not the only country that has feudalism, and this is on display in the film. The film follows a village labourer, who dreams of regaining his former aristocratic identity. Bodies of all 23 killed in Tara Air crash recovered

A helipad has been constructed at the site for the operation. However, the helicopter have been unable to land due to adverse wind conditions. The wreckage of a Tara Air Twin Otter, which had gone missing minutes after taking off from Pokhara on Wednesday morning, was found in Solighopte in Dana VDC of Myagdi district in the afternoon. All 23 people on board were killed. The turboprop aircraft, which was on a 20-minute scheduled flight to Jomsom, a popular trekking destination, had lost contact with air traffic controller 10 minutes after take-off.The plane, with registration 9N-AHH, had taken off at 7:50am. It was found crashed at around 1:30pm. Nepal Army had deployed a helicopter and soldiers on foot to search the aircraft immediately after the plane was reported missing. Squads of the Army, the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police had reached the crash site on foot and started rescue operations at around 2pm. The joint team had plucked 17 bodies from the wreckage before halting the operations for the day due to bad weather.“All 23 on board have been killed,” said Tara Airlines in a statement. Among the deceased, two were foreign nationals—one Chinese and one Kuwaiti. All others, including three crew members and two children, were Nepali nationals. Details are yet to come.A Viking Air DHC-6 Twin Otter 400, operating Tara Air flight 193, was destroyed in an accident in the Myagdi district, Nepal. All 23 on board suffered fatal injuries. The aircraft departed at 07:50 hours local time from Pokhara Airport (PKR) on a domestic 20-minute flight to Jomsom Airport (JMO), Nepal. According to a statement by the airline, the aircraft crashed near Tirkhe Dungha, Dana VDC of Myagdi district. Weather at both origin and destination airports was favourable, according to a Tara Air statement.<br />An Airbus A330-303, operated by THY Turkish Airlines, suffered a runway excursion accident upon landing at Kathmandu-Tribhuvan Airport (KTM), Nepal.<br />Flight TK726 was a regular passenger service from Istanbul-Atatürk International Airport (IST) to Kathmandu, Nepal. The flight was the first international flight to scheduled to arrive that morning. After descending from cruising altitude, it entered a holding pattern at FL210 at 06:12 hours local time (00:27 UTC) until about 07:00 (01:15 UTC) when it was cleared for a VOR/DME approach to runway 02. This approach was abandoned at about the Missed Approach Point at 1DME and the aircraft performed a go around. The aircraft circled and positioned for a second approach to runway 02. After landing the aircraft went off the left side of the runway. It ran onto soft soil and the nose landing gear collapsed.<br />A de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter operated by Nepal Airlines was destroyed when it impacted a mountainside near Sandhikhark, Nepal. All 18 on board sustained fatal injuries.<br />Flight RA183 was a domestic flight from Kathmandu to Jumla with a refueling stop at Pokhara. The airplane took off from Pokhara at 12:43. Upon leaving Pokhara Control Zone, the pilot in command realized that the direct track was not possible due weather and decided to proceed via a more southern track. During the flight the pilots were experiencing uncomfortable flying environment due to unfavorable weather conditions. Attempting to avoid the weather, the pilots had to fly up and down and changing the heading. Finally being unable to penetrate the weather ahead, the captain decided to divert to Bhairahawa, the nearest airport. However, the captain did not take into consideration the surrounding terrain and continued descent turning right. <br />The aircraft initially slashed a small tree and finally impacted a ridge. Due to the heavy impact the left wing was first disintegrated and then the front part of the aircraft toppled over beyond the ridge with several subsequent impacts.<br />The cockpit voice recorder showed that the copilot had warned the captain not to descend or turn.<br />The wreckage was located the following morning at an altitude of 7190 feet (2192 m).
